Fabric Producing Regions in Indonesia
Weaving is the activities of the fabric weave strands of warp and weft yarns previously been dipped in natural dyes and synthetic dyes.

Weaving widely spread in almost all regions in Indonesia, usually woven cloth used as traditional clothing area. There are 3 techniques of weaving techniques ikat, flat weaving, and weaving yarns added. Below is an example of weaving from some areas of the archipelago,

1. Weaving South Sulawesi

  • Lippa Garrusu
Geometric patterned with tiny plaid colored dark blue base, the head patterned vertical lines of the same color, but rather rare. Weaving is made of cotton, and is derived from Bone district.
  • Gloves Samarinda
Instead of Samarinda, but from Wajo, South Sulawesi. Made from cotton, and patterned lines form combined with flowers. Cloth used as a traveling outfit is made with fastening technique feed.

2. Weaving North Sumatra

  • Ulos Ragidup

Weaving has the most difficult technique of weaving among other North Sumatra, the motive should look like a living painting. Consists of three parts, two sides of which are woven at the same time and one part of the center's own woven with intricate motifs.


  • Ulos Sibolang

Used as a symbol of welcoming a new family member, but it is also commonly used as a separation of family members such as divorce and death. Therefore, this Ulos cloth should only be worn on the body.

3. Weaving Bali

  • Wastra Endek

Commonly used as a sarong and long cloth, the motive is the flora, fauna, Balinese mythology, and puppets. This weaving is characteristic is the presence of gold or silver thread woven fringes.

  • Wastra Cepuk

Having decoration with distinctive red color and motif colors, made of silk and cotton in the vertical section. Commonly used to cover the coffin.
