Kauravas or Kaurawa (Sanskrit: कौरव; Kauravas) is a group of antagonists in the epic Mahabharata. Name Kauravas generally means "descendant of Kuru". Kuru is the name of an Emperor who is a descendant of Bharata, and lowers the great figures in the epic Mahabharata. Kauravas is the mortal enemy of the Pandavas. Their number is one hundred and is the son of King Dhritarashtra is blind and his queen, goddess Gandhari.

The term used Kauravas in the Mahabharata has two meanings:
Broad sense: Kauravas refers to all the descendants of Kuru. In this sense, the Pandavas also includes Kauravas, and sometimes referred to as the Mahabharata, especially in some parts of the beginning.
Narrow sense: Kauravas refers to the lineage Kuru older. This term is limited to children Dhritarashtra, because he is a descendant of the oldest in the lineage Kuru. This term does not include the children of Pandu, who established a new lineage, namely the Pandavas.

In the Mahabharata is told that Gandhari, wife of Dhritarashtra, wanted a hundred sons. Gandhari then appealed to Vyasa, a powerful ascetic, and he granted it. Though they are brothers, Duryodhana who is the elder brother of the Kauravas, always jealous of the Pandavas, especially Yudhisthira to be nominated to be the king in Hastinapur. Any disputes arise, and culminated in a grand battle at Kurukshetra.
After a fierce battle lasted for eighteen days, a hundred sons of Dhritarashtra fall, including his grandchildren, except Yuyutsu, Dhritarashtra's son who was born of a lady's maid. The latter was killed in the battle Duryodhana, the eldest brother of the Kauravas. Previously, his younger brother who died at the hands Dushasana Bima. Yuyutsu is the only son of Dhritarashtra who survived the fierce battle at Kurukshetra because he sided with the Pandavas and continue the lineage of his father, and made the ceremony for the ancestors.
